The website I made for SKJ Ancient Beadart has now been accepting orders for a little over three weeks and has already turned over several thousand dollars worth of business. Why is this? How is it possible for a new website to do so well?
There are two answers to this question. First, SKJ Ancient Beadart is not just a startup. The company operate a successful e-bay store; they manage retail outlets in Tokyo and Bangkok; and they regularly attend trade fairs in Asia, Europe and the USA. Simply put, they understand the needs of their target market.
But while the above points are important, they by no means tell the whole story. You see, the key to e-commerce success lies not only in understanding the needs of your customers, it also involves providing them with an online experience that is simple, intuitive and seamless.
Think about it this way. How many times have you visited a site and got totally lost. What do I do now? Where am I supposed to click? It's telling me to read the terms and conditions, but I've already read them. Where's the cart button? How do I pay? Help, I'm lost!
Keep it simple. Always keep it simple. Focus on your customers. Understand their needs. And always make it as easy as possible for them to buy your products.
Ultimately there is no golden rule to instant e-commerce success. But if your site features an easy-to-navigate interface that enables buyers to progress logically from one step to the next then you can safely consider yourself to be winning rather than losing.
